Memes are Hilarious

Political memes are one of the most popular form of entertainment in Nigeria. Memes are hilarious and sarcastic trends on social media that spread rapidly. It is an act of relating vital issues to something funny often with slight variations through imitations or other genetic means. Memes are soul lifting and an instrument of comic and relief to most Nigerians.

The creator or originator of memes used to evoke certain emotions to fill deeper needs than a simple laugh. In the Nigeria arena, political memes are capable of conveying political messages, capable of wielding power to appeal and influence cultures and political actors. The use of memes is a very good tool for active participation as individuals and as members of the community. Political memes erase apathy during political discussion because everyone wants to participate and share opinions to support or oppose an aspirant, ruling party or former candidate in a democratic setting.

Memes can be so funny and meaningless but it should be paid attention to because hidden meanings and public opinions are embedded. Also more scholarly studies on memes should be encouraged to understand better the thought patterns of the youths.
