The third edition of the ACJOAU Inter-News Agency Oratory Contest happened on April 25th, 2026. The event which held at EDB 317 began with an opening prayer led by the Editor-in-chief for OAU Kilonsele. This was immediately followed by the rendition of the school's anthem.
Thereafter, Esther Olatimehin, the President of ACJOAU, delivered an opening speech where she talked about the birth of the oratory contest and introduced the distinguished panel of judges.
The panel featured Coach Ajake, the president of the OAU debate team, and Isaiah Adepoju, the author of Happiness is a Sickle Kinikan in my Belly. Nine news agencies participated in the contest including the ICONS Organisation, ASPOB Conglomerate, InFocus News Agency, KOWEE News Agency, NAPSS OAU Press Team, NASELS Communication Bureau, Great Ife Network, OAU Kilonsele, and OAU PEEPS. Each organisation was represented by two members.
Modalities were already set for the contest but it was unexpectedly reshaped by the chief judge, Coach Ajake. He introduced a sudden twist, building a tense atmosphere for the contestants. Coach Ajake moved the impromptu speech round which was supposed to come after the initial round themed: _‘The Agenda-Setting Power of the Media: How Far Does it Shape Public Perception?’_ to the beginning. He did this to test the participants’ mental prowess and increase the tension level.
The speaking rounds officially began with a representative from each news agency. Each person had three minutes to prepare and present their points.
The first round ended with the ASPOB Conglomerate, Great Ife Network, KOWEE News Agency, and OAU Peeps stepping down from the contest, while the ICONS Organisation, InFocus News Agency, NAPSS OAU Press Team, NASELS Communication Bureau, and OAU Kilonsele, contesting against one another. Before the next round began, the judges provided critical observations and advice for the participants.
The next round was intense as every contestant presented their ideas on the contest’s theme. After the presentation, the results were announced with the ICONS Organisation emerging as the winner with an overall score of 67.5. This was followed by the InFocus News Agency at 65.25, NAPSS OAU at 64.3, NASELS Communication Bureau at 61.25, and OAU Kilonsele at 59.3.
Overall, the contest was intense, challenging the minds of the participants to think. It also served as a vehicle to bond members across news agencies and improve communication among campus journalists.
