WATER: THE SIMPLE HABIT THAT KEEPS YOU HEALTHY AND ENERGISED

By Mercy Olabiyi

Have you ever felt unusually tired, struggled to concentrate, or experienced a headache in the middle of a busy day? While many people may blame stress, the real cause is sometimes as simple as not drinking enough water. Despite being one of the most important necessities of life, water is often overlooked in conversations about healthy living.

Water plays an important role in maintaining the body's daily functions. It helps regulate body temperature, transport nutrients, aid digestion, and remove waste products from the body. Without adequate water intake, the body may struggle to perform these functions effectively, leading to dehydration and other health concerns.

The importance of staying hydrated has continued to attract attention from health experts and advocates. Nigerian health influencer and medical doctor Egemba Chinonso Fidelis (popularly known as Aproko Doctor) has spoken several times about the importance of drinking water. In an article by him, he emphasized that water is essential because the body's cells depend on it to function properly. He further noted that adequate water intake supports healthy skin, aids digestion, helps the kidneys remove waste, and contributes to overall well-being.

Beyond its health benefits, staying hydrated can also improve concentration and energy levels. Individuals who drink enough water are often better able to focus on daily tasks, while dehydration may result in fatigue, dizziness, and reduced productivity.

Water also contributes to healthy-looking skin. Although skincare products play a role in maintaining the skin, adequate hydration helps the body maintain its natural balance and supports overall skin health. This makes water one of the simplest and most affordable tools for personal wellness.

For students and other individuals constantly on the move, making water consumption a habit can significantly improve daily performance. Carrying a water bottle and drinking water regularly throughout the day are small practices that can have lasting benefits.

As temperatures continue to rise and people become more conscious of their health, the importance of water can not be overstated. Staying hydrated is not merely about satisfying thirst; it is about giving the body what it needs to function at its best. In many cases, a healthier and more energetic lifestyle may begin with something as simple as a glass of water.

Afeez: My name is Olagbaju Afeez Olatomide. I'm from a muslim family of 6. I have three siblings and we are all boys. NCB: How about your educational background? Afeez: I spent all my educational life up to this moment in Ife. I attended Pearl Preparatory School while in nursery class. I proceeded to Faith Standard Schools for my primary and secondary education. I finished secondary school in 2019, applied for English language here in OAU the same year and I got admitted a few months after. NCB: So you mean to type that English was your first choice. Afeez: Yes. I chose English myself. Actually, when I was in SSS 3, I was indecisive on whether I should pursue a degree in Law or English. Later, I got to find out Law wasn't accredited as a programme in OAU that year and since a passionate love fo...

"I WOULD HATE TO MAKE PROMISES BECAUSE THEN I WOULD BE CHALLENGED TO PERFORM ABOVE THEM." - FRANCIS OHACHO, PRESIDENT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH, OAU.

By Mercy Ojegbola  NCB: Can we meet you? Francis: I am Francis Fortunatus Ohacho, popularly known as Sael. A part four student in the Department of English, Obafemi Awolowo University, I am the incumbent president of the department's students body. NCB: What motivated you to run for the position of President? Francis: I would like to use cliché pumped up phrases like I'm led by my passion for service and all.  People often say they knew I was going for presidency from part one due to my proactiveness, but really I didn't have the Presidency in mind till late second semester of part two.  And that's because I have only wanted to support from the sides, being a significant catalyst for development wherever I am. So I've had roles like Vice President and Fin Sec in mind, but not president. I didn't think I had it. My motivation, in summary, would be the realisation of how efficient I can be to an administration. And I don't doubt it, that with the help of the t...
