The Transport Management Commission (TMC), Great Ife Student Union, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), has raised concerns over the circulation of counterfeit OAU shuttle transport tickets reportedly being sold by some vendors within the university community.
In a release dated 21 June 2026 and addressed to students, the commission disclosed that fake versions of the shuttle tickets are currently in circulation and warned students to exercise caution when purchasing tickets.
To help students distinguish between genuine and counterfeit tickets, TMC highlighted several identifying features. According to the commission, the imprint on the original ticket runs continuously and clearly across the bus and tricycle icons, while the fake version shows interruptions in the imprint, suggesting manipulation.
The commission also noted differences in colour quality, stating that authentic tickets have a deeper and richer appearance, whereas counterfeit tickets appear lighter and washed out. Additionally, students were advised to pay close attention to the logo positioned at the top left corner of the ticket, as visible differences exist between the original and fake versions.
Another distinguishing feature identified by TMC is the top border line of the ticket, which appears noticeably thicker on counterfeit copies than on authentic ones.
Students were further urged to carefully inspect shuttle tickets before purchase and avoid patronising unauthorised or suspicious vendors. The commission also encouraged members of the university community to report suspected cases to the appropriate authorities.
TMC stated that efforts are already underway to address the issue and assured students that further updates would be communicated in due course. The commission concluded by reminding students to remain vigilant and verify tickets before making purchases.
