The President of the Department of English, Obafemi Awolowo University, Francis Ohacho as declared intention to repaint the newly renovated lobby due to mutilation.
He made this known on Friday while speaking on the maintenance structure of the department during the departmental congress, mentioning that this was much needed because the department lobby that was painted earlier has been vandalized by students. He further expressed his discontent referring to the act as barbaric.
Recall that NCBOAU reported that the department lobby recently got a facelift and light upgrade which had enhanced it’s academic relevance and aesthetic appearance. The lobby has however expressed a decline in appearance as the newly painted wall has been wrecked in less than two weeks by students who hung around at the lobby.
According to the President, the walls were badly mutilated by students who sit at the lobby especially those who rub their feet and shoes against the wall while they sit adding that the repaint is an additional expense which could have been avoided.
Ohacho then stated that such behavior will no longer be condoned in the department, noting that students whether during the day or at night will no longer be allowed to sit on the pavements or have physical contacts that can result to mutilation on the walls.
He also added that notice will be placed at the lobby to inform and remind students who use the lobby about the development.
