FASA VOTES IN NEW ERA OF SUCCESSFUL ELECTION

The Faculty of Arts Student Association (FASA) held its elections on July 5, 2024, and the voting process concluded successfully with minimal disruption. Despite an initial delay due to logistical challenges, including a shortage of ballot boxes and some disaccreditation issues among voters, the Electoral Commission ensured the elections proceeded smoothly.

Election Results:

To win, candidates needed a 2/3 majority of the total votes cast, which equalled 616 votes.

Total Ballot Papers: 1500

Unused Ballot Papers: 576

Total Votes Cast: 924

Position-wise Results:

1. Director of Sports:

   Amigo: 655 votes (Unopposed)

   Void: 269 votes

2. Treasurer:

   Indomitable: 606 votes (Unopposed)

3. Director of Socials:

Ekechi Chiamaka Damilola (AMAKA): 616 (Unopposed, met the 2/3 majority threshold)

4. Financial Secretary:

Great Victor: 633 votes (Unopposed, met the 2/3 majority threshold)

5. Public Relations Officer:

   Daniel Duke: 611 votes (Unopposed)

6. Assistant General Secretary:

   FOJ SAX: 469 votes (Winner)

   Africa: 395 votes

   Void: 60 votes

7. Vice President:

A simple majority was used as no candidate met the required 25% from 8 departments in the Faculty.

 Temi: 473 votes (Winner)

 Olatunji Olamide: 396 votes

  Void: 55 votes

8. President:

   Hispraiz: 579 votes

   Lawrence: 306 votes

   Void: 39 votes

The absence of a General Secretary position on the ballot paper was a noted anomaly. Additionally, the reference to the English Department as "Kano of FASA" during the ballot counting was a curious highlight of the event. Despite the absence of the Treasurer aspirant, Indomitable, the electoral process was conducted efficiently under the watchful eyes of security personnel staff observers and the press.

Although there were a few instances of conflict among electoral ad-hoc staff, these were quickly resolved by the Electoral Commission.

Overall, the FASA elections of 2024 were a positive event for the faculty, as all but one position was filled, and the results were declared in a smooth and timely manner. This indicates a positive development in the electoral process for the faculty, ensuring the students' democratic rights are upheld.
