GREAT IFE ELECTION DEBATE NIGHT HEATS UP WITH CANDIDATES CLASHING ON KEY ISSUES

 


Despite a delayed start, the heated debate for the Great Ife Student's Union election commenced late in the evening on June 24, 2024, inside the packed Oduduwa Hall. Aspirants vying for various positions within the student body squared off against each other to showcase their ideas and address critical issues affecting the student body.

The confrontational debate night was graced by the presence of Association of Campus Journalists OAU, who played a crucial role in moderating the debate session and ensuring the candidates addressed the issues that mattered most to the student body. By asking pointed questions and challenging the candidates' ideas, the association helped to facilitate a lively and informative debate that gave students a clearer picture of each candidate's vision for the student union.

Supporters of various candidates were enthusiastic, with posters and banners displayed at every corner. The electoral commission apologized for the lateness, and the event proceeded with the recitation of the OAU anthem.

Aspirants for various positions, including Director of Sports, Director of Social and Culture, Welfare Director, Financial Secretary, PRO, Assistant General Secretary, Secretary General, Vice President, and President answered questions from the panel.

The event concluded with the debate coming to an end, and, school administration, ACJOAU and electoral commission were praised for their efforts in restoring order. The student union election is keenly contested, and the outcome is eagerly awaited. The candidates' performances will likely influence the voting decisions of the students. The election promises to be an exciting and closely contested one, with the winners set to lead the student union in the coming session.


In the end, it was a night of passionate debates, enthusiastic supporters, and a showcase of leadership aspirations. The students of Obafemi Awolowo University have a crucial decision to make, and only time will tell who will emerge victorious. With the candidates' fate hanging in the balance, the students of Obafemi Awolowo University will head to the polls to elect their next student union leaders. The election is set to take place on June 26, 2024.

On Sunday, 15th December 2024, Joel Oyeleke, a Part 3 student of the Department of English, launched his debut poetry collection, ‘God is a Poet’. DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH HOLDS COLLOQUIUM FOR ITS FRESH STUDENTS

Still in the spirit of felicitation, as the matriculation ceremony took place on the 11th of January 2024, the Department of English held a colloquium for its fresh students on the 12th of January 2024 at AUD II. The anchor, Dr Olusegun Joseph commenced officially by 10:38 am. He recognised the presence of notable members of staff and ushered a number of them to the high table including Prof E.T.O Babalola, the current HOD of the Department of English Prof Akande, Prof Rotimi Taiwo, Dr Faleye, Dr Bamigbade, Dr Adejumo, Dr (Mrs) Hunsu, Dr Ogundipe, Dr Ademilokun, Acting Chief Security Officer of the university, Mr Adegboyega and some other members of staff of the department.
