FROM PASSION TO PUBLICATION: UNIQUELAYO'S JOURNEY TO BECOMING A PUBLISHED AUTHOR

Recently, Olufayo Omolayo Mercy, an English Undergraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University, achieved a significant milestone by publishing her first book, "Y.O.L.O (You Only Live Once)." Widely known as UniqueLayo, she started her writing career in her freshman year, initially sharing episodic stories and poems on a Facebook page. Her passion for writing continued to grow, and during her third year, she branched out into screenwriting for clients.

UniqueLayo's book "Y.O.L.O" centers around a self-made millionaire who must navigate the consequences of living life on his own terms and seek redemption after being visited by the angel of death. The story is described by UniqueLayo as "a gripping tale of spiritual awakening, second chances, and the power of living a purpose-driven life."

Inspired by the teachings of Myles Munroe and Rick Warren on living a purpose-driven life, she decided to embark on a journey to convert motivational books into novels.

UniqueLayo learned about the publishing process through extensive research, watching numerous YouTube tutorials. Eventually, she chose Selar.co as her publishing platform. She was thrilled to see her long-held dream become a reality.

In her own words, "The most difficult part of writing a book is actually writing the book. It takes time and patience to finish, but publishing is less rigorous if you find a platform that is ready to accept your work of art."

UniqueLayo's book challenges the conventional understanding of the phrase "You Only Live Once," often used as an excuse for reckless living.

In her book, UniqueLayo encourages readers to reflect on whether they are truly fulfilling their potential and contributing positively to the world. She emphasizes the importance of living with purpose and making a meaningful impact. UniqueLayo's message is, "I want people to rise up to their true purpose in life. Is it about money or about fulfillment?" "Y.O.L.O" not only marks UniqueLayo's debut as an author but also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of living a purpose-driven life.

Overall, her journey from a passionate writer to a published author is an inspiring one. Through her debut book, "Y.O.L.O," she challenges readers to examine their lives and live with purpose, making a positive impact on the world. Her dedication and hard work serve as a testament to the power of following one's dreams and turning them into reality.

"I WOULD HATE TO MAKE PROMISES BECAUSE THEN I WOULD BE CHALLENGED TO PERFORM ABOVE THEM." - FRANCIS OHACHO, PRESIDENT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH, OAU.

By Mercy Ojegbola  NCB: Can we meet you? Francis: I am Francis Fortunatus Ohacho, popularly known as Sael. A part four student in the Department of English, Obafemi Awolowo University, I am the incumbent president of the department's students body. NCB: What motivated you to run for the position of President? Francis: I would like to use cliché pumped up phrases like I'm led by my passion for service and all.  People often say they knew I was going for presidency from part one due to my proactiveness, but really I didn't have the Presidency in mind till late second semester of part two.  And that's because I have only wanted to support from the sides, being a significant catalyst for development wherever I am. So I've had roles like Vice President and Fin Sec in mind, but not president. I didn't think I had it. My motivation, in summary, would be the realisation of how efficient I can be to an administration. And I don't doubt it, that with the help of the t...
