Young Author unveils debut novel: "Happiness is a Sickle Kiníkan in my Belly"

In an interview with literary sensation, Isaiah Adepoju, the literary world gains insight into his debut novel. Isaiah Adepoju, an undergraduate studying English at the Obafemi Awolowo University has unveiled his debut novel, titled “Happiness is a Sickle Kiníkan in my Belly”, emerging as a rising star in the literary scene.

“Happiness is a Sickle Kiníkan in my Belly” is a poignant and heart-wrenching tale that explores the devastating effects of loss and grief. The story centers on Ephraim, a boy whose aspirations to fly tragically leaves his family to grapple with the grief that comes afterwards. Also, the debut novel is about a family’s understanding of loss. It is a story that explores theme of suicide, trauma and loss.

During the interview, Isaiah stated that he wrote the novel to understand loss, and he wants people to know that it is fine if they cannot understand loss.

 

“We may not understand a tragedy. Maybe we don’t need to.” – Isaiah.

The literary sensation stated that writing the seperation between Isaac and Teresa (the husband and wife in the novel) was the most challenging aspect to write.

“I tried to concentrate on their present state by writing about the things instantly happening around them. I wrote the bulk of this, doubtful if I was writing a story or merely doing intellectual exercise.” – Isaiah.

With “Happiness is a Sickle Kiníkan in my Belly”, Isaiah Adepoju embarks on a remarkable literary journey, offering readers a captivating tale of suicide, trauma and loss. As his debut novel hits shelves, Isaiah’s emergence as a fresh and vibrant voice in literature heralds a promising for the literary world.
