"I still don't fancy the department - Gbemiga"

NCB: Can we meet you, sir?

FYB: I’m Oluwagbemiga, a final-year student in the Department of English. I am from Osun State, I grew up here and the first of two sons. I enjoy watching good Movies/TV shows, football (I am a fan of Arsenal) and I listen to music religiously. I attended Kidvarc High School and Saint Kizito Catholic College for my primary and secondary school education and now in OAU.

NCB: Why did you choose OAU despite growing up in Osun state?

FYB: I frequently came to campus when I was very young and was fascinated by the buildings, so I swore I was going to make OAU my Alma mater. It’s more about the architecture than academics (I’m not really proud of that).OluwaGbemiga

NCB: You said you were a lover of good movies, what is an ideal good movie for you?

FYB: It’s mainly anything that has to do with Science fiction, fantasy, espionage/ Military, political or legal.

NCB: That means you love things relating to Science. Why are you in Arts then?

FYB: Yes, I do. But wanted to study Law. This makes me a wounded lawyer. I’m still haunted, by the way.

NCB: Hm! Since you accidentally met yourself in the Department of English, how have you been coping so far?

FYB: I think I’m doing just fine, even though I still don’t fancy the department.

NCB:Yeah.’Doing fine’ I love that. What is your best grade and what’s your lowest grade and in what courses?

FYB: I think I have had As in my Part One EGL courses. ‘E’ has been my lowest grade (I can’t remember the exact course).

NCB: After English, do you still have plans to study law?

FYB: I’m not sure, but I think so.

NCB: Oh. Still OAU, right?

FYB: No! I think I’ve had enough of this school.

NCB: For the love of its building nko?

FYB: I think I’ve seen enough of it. Apparently, there’s more to schools than it buildings – I wish I knew that 5 years ago.

NCB: What do you think of the English department?

FYB: I don’t think I’ve got a lot of good things to say…on the bright side, I’ve made good friends here.

NCB: Could you mention a few of the not-so-good things, Sir?

FYB: I think I’d make that personal, please.

NCB: Can you share a memorable moment or experience that has shaped your personal growth during your time at the University?

FYB: That was the orientation week, in part one. A lot of things I heard back then have helped me.

NCB: What’s the most unexpected thing you’ve learned during your time at the University?

FYB: Yes, it is that people are not always what they seem to be.

NCB: This seems deeper than it appears. Have you ever had a reason to question the marking system in the Department of English or the grading?

FYB: Yes, a couple of times.

NCB: And were there feasible answers during these times?

FYB: Not really.

NCB: So, you’d conclude that the grading and marking system in the Department of English is mysterious, right?

FYB: I think there is a need to make it more transparent.

NCB: Alright. So, a beautiful lady from the Department of English or $1m?

FYB: $1m.

NCB: With these beautiful babes? Has any lady in the department ever met your spec especially from your level?

FYB: I think so.

NCB: Will I be correct to regard her as your crush, boss?

FYB: Not really.

NCB: What exactly is your spec?

FYB: I think it changes over time.

NCB: Are you in a relationship?

FYB: No.

NCB: From 1 to 10, how would you rate Nasels current executives?

FYB: 9/10.

NCB: What would you advise fresh students in the department?

FYB: Strive for academic excellence and also make good friends.

NCB: Do you have any shout-outs?

FYB: Yes. Thanks to everyone who has helped my life on this campus (most especially, My ‘Erudite’ guys).

NCB: Any word of advice for NCB?

FYB: Keep up the good work. Thank y’all for having me. It’s an honour.

NCB: You are welcome.

"I WOULD HATE TO MAKE PROMISES BECAUSE THEN I WOULD BE CHALLENGED TO PERFORM ABOVE THEM." - FRANCIS OHACHO, PRESIDENT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH, OAU.

By Mercy Ojegbola  NCB: Can we meet you? Francis: I am Francis Fortunatus Ohacho, popularly known as Sael. A part four student in the Department of English, Obafemi Awolowo University, I am the incumbent president of the department's students body. NCB: What motivated you to run for the position of President? Francis: I would like to use cliché pumped up phrases like I'm led by my passion for service and all.  People often say they knew I was going for presidency from part one due to my proactiveness, but really I didn't have the Presidency in mind till late second semester of part two.  And that's because I have only wanted to support from the sides, being a significant catalyst for development wherever I am. So I've had roles like Vice President and Fin Sec in mind, but not president. I didn't think I had it. My motivation, in summary, would be the realisation of how efficient I can be to an administration. And I don't doubt it, that with the help of the t...
