OAU GROOVES TO OPEN CONCERT LED BY MUSIC DEPARTMENT STUDENT

The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) campus came alive on Monday, 5th February, 2024 with an electrifying open concert organized by FOJ, a first-year Music Department student. The Student Union area pulsed with vibrant energy as the event drew a crowd of enthusiastic students, passersby, and supporters. Some important personalities were in attendance, which include the president of the Student Union, LordFem, the former vice president of the Student Union, Salvation Grace, the financial secretary of the Student Union, and sensational comedian Biyi Praise graced the event.

OAU GROOVES

The evening unfolded as a captivating fusion of musical styles. An artist surrounded the environment with his soulful voice serenaded the audience, blending traditional Fuji rhythms with contemporary Christian music to create a unique and engaging soundscape. The enthralled crowd swayed and danced to the infectious melodies, captivated by the rhythmic tapestry.

While the initial set resonated with many, the concert took an unexpected turn with a diverse range of guest artists. Hip-hop energy from one performer provided a contrast, while Majeed Lev, a former student union presidential aspirant, added another layer to the musical journey. However, these variations weren’t universally embraced, with some audience members drawn by the initial melodies choosing to leave.

Despite the diverse styles, the heart of the evening remained firmly rooted in the Music Department. FOJ’s closing performance served as a powerful showcase of the talent and passion nurtured within its walls. The concert culminated at 9 pm, leaving the audience buzzing with positive energy and a renewed appreciation for the rich musical tapestry of the OAU community.

"I WOULD HATE TO MAKE PROMISES BECAUSE THEN I WOULD BE CHALLENGED TO PERFORM ABOVE THEM." - FRANCIS OHACHO, PRESIDENT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH, OAU.

By Mercy Ojegbola  NCB: Can we meet you? Francis: I am Francis Fortunatus Ohacho, popularly known as Sael. A part four student in the Department of English, Obafemi Awolowo University, I am the incumbent president of the department's students body. NCB: What motivated you to run for the position of President? Francis: I would like to use cliché pumped up phrases like I'm led by my passion for service and all.  People often say they knew I was going for presidency from part one due to my proactiveness, but really I didn't have the Presidency in mind till late second semester of part two.  And that's because I have only wanted to support from the sides, being a significant catalyst for development wherever I am. So I've had roles like Vice President and Fin Sec in mind, but not president. I didn't think I had it. My motivation, in summary, would be the realisation of how efficient I can be to an administration. And I don't doubt it, that with the help of the t...
