NASELS HOLDS FIRST CONGRESS UNDER NEW ADMINISTRATION

During the congress, several issues were raised by members of the association. It included fresh students who had not yet received their souvenirs, the fresh students’ party, and other concerns.

The key point of contention was the formation of the Academic Committee and Judiciary members. Olaniran Solomon (Hon Solo Pee) brought to the notice of the president: the nomination of these committees at the first congress meeting, as stated in the association’s constitution. The president’s response as regards the nominations did not satisfy all members present.

According to the association’s constitution, as stated by another Honourable Marcel, the formation of the Academic and Judicial committees should take place at the first congress meeting. The president acknowledged this and agreed to proceed with the nomination of the Academic Committee. Regardless, the nomination of the Judicial Committee was not addressed at the time.

There have been concerns about the association’s NSRC decisions not being recognised within the department. This was brought to the attention of the president, who did not seem to be concerned about the issue. This sparked a heated exchange between the President and Ojokolo Peter Oluwadamilare (Honourable Don), a member of the NSRC.

Despite these concerns, the association’s executives have plans for upcoming activities, including a fresh students party next semester, a dinner party and awards ceremony, discounted prices on association merchandise for all members, a fitness walk, and a relief fund for those in their final year.

The president assured the fresh students that they would be able to pick up their souvenirs once they were ready.

The academic committee was formulated by nominations, and its members include Surf from Part 1, Sael from Part 2, Joseph Toluwani and Indomitable from Part 3. The committee does not include any representatives from the Part 4 constituency due to a lack of enough representatives at the congress.
