'THE HALL OF RESIDENCE TANKS WILL BE CLEANED BEFORE THE END OF THIS SESSION' LoRdFeM Assures Students

The Great IFE Students’ Union held its first congress since resumption on February 5th, 2024, at the Afrika Amphitheatre. The event was scheduled to begin at 3pm, but started at 3:36pm. The congress experienced a low turnout of students.

Recall that the Union held 3 congresses during the holiday to tackle the fee increment by the management. The Congresses which had constitution of The Great Ife Students’ Union school fees review committee. The committee was however disolved after submission from Congress men and women that the committee had served it purpose and they should be relieved on their duty.

President Abass Akinremi Ojo (LoRdFeM) delivered the opening address and highlighted the Union’s achievements since taking office. These included the intervention in the abduction of an OAU student earlier this semester by the EFCC, the support provided to students affected by the Poplat filling station incident, and the tutorial sessions organized for fresh students. He also assured students that no student was in the custody of the EFCC.

The congress also provided an opportunity for the congressmen and women to express their concerns on various issues. One of these was the unclean and unhealthy water supply at the hall of residence. The president assuredly said, “the hall of resident tanks will be cleaned before the end of this session.”

The congressmen and women’s reactions to the president’s responses were mixed, and some were not satisfied with his responses. This led to a counter motion for the adjournment of the congress, which was proposed by a congressman but was not seconded. The president, in quick succession nullified the motion.

GOD IS A POET: JOEL OYELEKE EXPLORES RELIGION THROUGH POETRY

On Sunday, 15th December 2024, Joel Oyeleke, a Part 3 student of the Department of English, launched his debut poetry collection, ‘God is a Poet’. The book launch event commenced with an opening prayer led by Isaiah Adepoju. Thereafter, the chief compere introduced some of the special guests, including Kehinde Agunbiade and Adio Favour Oladimeji, the President of NASELS, OAU Chapter. The event featured captivating performances, starting with a spoken word poetry presentation by Marcel, inspired by Hebrews 11:1. This was followed by a beautiful song rendition and a guitar instrumental. Paul Abidoye, a pencil artist, showcased three of his art. He explained that his paintings were inspired by the Bible. FACULTY OF ARTS STUDENT ASSOCIATION PROPOSES ELECTRONIC VOTING TO ENSURE FAIRNESS

The Faculty of Arts Students Association (FASA) held its first press conference today under the leadership of the Electoral Commission Chairman, Oluwamayowa Isaac Alabi, known as LordMayor. The conference, held at HB 3, Room 404, experienced a low turnout of attendees. The purpose of the conference was to ensure a fair, transparent, and credible FASA election, scheduled for June 24th, 2024, at AUD II from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. The electoral commission introduced a new electronic voting system, replacing the traditional paper-based voting. Electoral Chairman Alabi, along with General Secretary Abidemi, provided an orientation on the new voting process. LordMayor explained that the change was made to maintain orderliness, transparency, and fairness during the election. Voters will still need to be accredited at the voting venue but will vote electronically, using provided email and password.
