FYB: I particularly like Nicki Minaj. She is an icon and I just incorporated it as a brand name.

FYB: Lol. Anybody, I do not mind marrying from a different religion. I am progressive.

NCB: How do you mean by being progressive?

FYB: I have an open mind and I see beyond religion, ethnicity etc. They are all societal constructs . All that matters to me is that you are a good person, you love me and you are financially capable enough to nurture.

NCB: “Financially capable to nurture!” With this, don’t you think it could make your relationship patriarchal?

FYB: I see relationship as a partnership thing but man’s got to nurture.

NCB: What is your take on feminism? Are you a Womanist ( a kind of African feminism) or you strongly embrace the western one?

FYB: What I believe is that feminism is advocating for women’s rights: right to education; right to work, right to go after your dreams. I believe that a woman’s potential should never be marginalized .

NCB: You staying in Abuja all through, what brought the idea of you coming down to the west, OAU to be precise and not somewhere around there?

FYB: I applied to Unilorin the first time I wrote JAMB in 2016 but I was not offered admission. So , I wrote JAMB again in 2017 . I just thought of applying to OAU because it is a renowned and good school. So the second time I wrote JAMB , I picked OAU as first choice and was admitted. Although, I applied for Law, I was offered English and Literary studies.

NCB: Has OAU met your standard or you just dey manage am?

FYB: I just dey manage am.

NCB: What do you feel about English department?

FYB: My department is not actually the best but I am thriving.

NCB: Many students encounter obstacles or rumours during their academic journey. Have you ever dealt with any rumours or gossip and how did you handle it?

FYB: Plenty a whole lot of heart-wrenching rumours. But, I do not dwell on them. There are so many obstacles to face along the way, so just be prepared and always find ways to rise above the obstacles.

NCB: Do you mind sharing the memorable one(s)?

FYB: There is this time I was heavily slut-shamed , people claimed perhaps, I was a prostitute because, I am very much beautiful and progressive. But, in this line of work, it is sometimes expected even though it is not a thing to happen to anyone.

NCB: Have you ever faced any unique situations or circumstances related to your personal appearance or any specific qualities that you possess, and how have you managed them?

FYB: Yes, actually. It often happens to me. Honestly, I just brush it off and get used to it, it is prolly the price of beauty.

NCB: How do friends treat you regarding these rumours and have you ever been betrayed by your female friends, precisely?

FYB: Yes , I have seen it all, betrayal, backstabbing and all. And basically some of the rumours stem from hate and jealousy.

NCB: Have you had any memorable trips or experiences abroad that have influenced your personal growth? And, on what purpose?

FYB: Yes, I have been to Dubai and Zanzibar. And it was on the purpose of vacation. It was the best and memorable moment of my life.

"I WOULD HATE TO MAKE PROMISES BECAUSE THEN I WOULD BE CHALLENGED TO PERFORM ABOVE THEM." - FRANCIS OHACHO, PRESIDENT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH, OAU.

By Mercy Ojegbola  NCB: Can we meet you? Francis: I am Francis Fortunatus Ohacho, popularly known as Sael. A part four student in the Department of English, Obafemi Awolowo University, I am the incumbent president of the department's students body. NCB: What motivated you to run for the position of President? Francis: I would like to use cliché pumped up phrases like I'm led by my passion for service and all.  People often say they knew I was going for presidency from part one due to my proactiveness, but really I didn't have the Presidency in mind till late second semester of part two.  And that's because I have only wanted to support from the sides, being a significant catalyst for development wherever I am. So I've had roles like Vice President and Fin Sec in mind, but not president. I didn't think I had it. My motivation, in summary, would be the realisation of how efficient I can be to an administration. And I don't doubt it, that with the help of the t...
