POPULAR TIKTOKER ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT AND ILLEGAL FILMING

Seo Won Jeong popularly known as Won Jeong Man or @ox_zung, a 27 years old tiktoker with a total number of 55.6 million followers is faced with sexual assault charges. Seo is known for recreating other content creator’s videos with a significant signature shout ‘Mama!’. He was subsequently labelled as the ‘mama boy’ or ‘mama guy’. Seo stopped posting since July 22, 2023 leaving his fans worried about his disappearance. However, he appeared on the South Korea news as ‘Influencer A’ under investigation for charges of sexual assault. According to SBS, a woman reported ‘influencer A’ and one other man of raping her while she was unconscious and taking illegal videos of her. The incident was allegedly to have happened after a social gathering where they all had drinks and she got unconscious. GHANA CROWNED KING AT WAUG

The 15th edition of the West African University Games (WAUG) concluded in a blaze of glory on December 22nd, leaving behind a trail of athletic triumphs, heartwarming camaraderie, and valuable lessons for the future of university sports in the region. Held at the historic Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), the games saw student-athletes from 22 West African universities battle it out in a vibrant display of sportsmanship across disciplines like basketball, table tennis, and athletics. OAU FASA MEETS NEW STUDENTS

The Faculty of Arts Students’ Association (FASA) recently held a fresh students special meeting on 21st December, 2023 designed to welcome new students and help them connect with their peers and the students’ association executives. The meeting featured several student performances (music and dance). Students such as Professional, Anjola, Susan, Aliya and many other participated in dance and song presentations. There were also several student testimonies during the interactive session that highlighted the experiences of fresh students at the faculty and the department level. The public relations officer, Tunde Ajayi who also emceed the program briefly talked about the Freshers’ Week schedule, which includes the Freshers’ party in January, 2024. OAU ENGLISH DEPARTMENT TAKES A NEW LOOK

In the spirit of celebrating the yuletide season and hoping for joyous existence in New year (2024), the English department lobby was beautifully decorated amidst innovation to promote the department entrepreneurs. The new look of the department lobby has turned the lobby into a calm and inviting place to unwind after a long days of classes. This recent development is credited to National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies (NASELS), OAU executives under the leadership of Mr Popoola Moses. The new appearance has generated reactions from students commending the department executive for coming up with the idea of celebrating the season and in the same space promoting businesses of students. SCHOOL STILL VACATES 22ND DECEMBER

Rumours have been circulating on the campus about the school management shutting down the school on the 15th for Christmas and New Year break. This, according to rumour is due to WUAG which the school will be hosting 200 Universities in a sports competition. The rumour follows that students in the Halls of residence will vacate their hostels so that the school management can receive the visitors in these hostels. However, the school has not released any official statement confirming this. Students have expressed concern about the accuracy of the rumours, and are asking for more information from the school administration especially those in the school hostels. A WhatsApp conversation between the Dean of Agriculture and a student showed that the school still vacates on the 22nd of December as stated in the school-reviewed calendar. ATTEMPTED RAPE IN MOREMI HALL SPARKS SAFETY CONCERNS ON CAMPUS

A female student’s safety was threatened in the early hours of the morning at 3:45 am when a man attempted to rape her in her room at Moremi Hall, the Obafemi Awolowo University’s female hostel. The victim described the assailant as a man wearing a black cap and holding a pair of scissors, who demanded nothing from her except to satisfy his sexual desires “I cannot recognize his face because he was on a facemask, putting on a black cap and wielding scissors at me. He instructed me not to shout,” the victim said. “I asked him if he wanted anything, my laptop and my phone were on the table but he kept on groping me. I don’t know how I managed to drag the scissors with him and started shouting”, she concluded.
