The Judicial Council of the National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies (NASELS) has revised its earlier warning to students and vendors following concerns over discipline and conduct around the department.
Earlier on Tuesday, 20th January 2026, the Council issued a notice prohibiting sitting on pavements, leaning on departmental walls, littering, and the presence of food or snack vendors in the lobby. The sanctions outlined are purchasing paint and hiring a painter for those leaning on walls, twenty hours of community service for littering, and seizure of vendors’ goods within the lobby.
As it is stated in the second release that due to the consideration of certain concerns, the Council reviewed the initial directive and clarified the prohibitions and sanctions. The revised notice, released on the same day, now includes measures against vandalism of departmental property.
According to the updated notice:
Students found leaning on walls or sitting on pavements must purchase a bucket of paint and hire a painter to repaint the affected area.
Students caught littering the floor will serve twenty hours of community service.
Anyone found vandalizing departmental property: including tables, chairs, or other items, must replace the damaged item and will face further disciplinary sanctions as determined by the Judicial Council.
The Council stressed that strict compliance is mandatory, emphasising the need to maintain order, cleanliness, and the physical integrity of the department.
The notice was electronically signed by Bada Emmanuel Ayomide, popularly known as Justice Emmysön, The Secretary, and Munirudeen Abdullahi Aremu known as The Chronicler, The Chief Judge of the Judicial Council.
Following the release, the Chief Judge of the Judicial Council, Munirudeen Abdullahi Aremu, and the Secretary, Bada Emmanuel Ayomide, were asked whether officials would monitor compliance, if the rules were permanent, the reasons for revising the initial warning, and how sanctions would be applied fairly. They responded that all details would be provided in an official release. They further emphasised that the Council remains committed to transparency and will share as much information as possible with the student body.
Students and members of NASELS are therefore advised to adhere to the revised regulations to avoid sanctions and contribute to a conducive and well-maintained academic environment.
