HOW TO SQUEEZE FUN INTO YOUR TIGHT STUDENT SCHEDULE

By Oguntola Moyinoluwa.

Being a Student in a Nigerian university is not easy let alone being a student at OAU “Oba Awon University”. Honestly, no course is easy. You think music is easy? Try taking their courses. Everyone has their cut of the general “shege”. The general populace believes that art students have it easy; which is very much untrue. Take a look at the students of dramatic arts with their everyday bone wrecking rehearsals to literature students with hundreds of pages of plays, novels and poems to read in a semester, not to talk of the philosophers with their endless theories. The bottom line of this is as long as you are an OAU student, you will definitely have your cut.

SQUEEZE FUN INTO YOUR TIGHT STUDENT SCHEDULE

However, while reading and studying for your courses, you can as well have fun too without affecting your studies. That is why we have the popular saying “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. Here are ways to squeeze fun into your tight student’s schedule:

BUILD A REWARD SYSTEM: Motivate yourself by setting small goals and rewarding yourself with a fun activity (basically something you love doing) once you have achieved your set goals.

FLEXIBILITY: Be open to spontaneous moments of fun; don’t close yourself off. Sometimes, the best opportunities for enjoyment arise unexpectedly.

COMBINE ACTIVITIES: Integrate fun with your routine. For instance, you can listen to music or a podcast while relaxing, walking to class, eating or while doing other things.

GROUP FUN: Plan fun activities with friends or course mates . Have intellectual discussions and conversations. Hangouts are great avenues for group fun, try to attend one. You can also join a sport club of your choice.

MICRO-BREAKS: Take short, frequent breaks during study sessions. Use these breaks to do something enjoyable and relaxing for about 5-10 minutes like stretching, watching a skit or even playing a mobile game. (Just make sure you don’t exceed your break time).

Although, most times, secluding a time for fun is not guaranteed. The best thing is to make sure you do the things that make you happy as you carry on with different academic activities.
