"I have been served breakfast and dinner..."_Wondy

NCB: Can we meet you?

FYB: My name is Wonderful Ayobami Opemipo. I am a final year student in the Department of English Language, faculty of Arts, OAU. I hail from Oyo State and the first of three children. I’ll consider myself as a very hard working lady. I manage some businesses like Wondy’s bag, baking, place professional calls, running voice over and also a writer.

NCB: You hail from Oyo State which means you are a Yoruba lady but we barely hear you speak Yoruba. How come?

FYB: We moved to Kogi State when I was seven and they were mostly Hausa speakers there. We hardly relate with people and my parents communicate with us using English Language. I can barely speak Yoruba but I understand it well.

NCB: How do you cope being the first child?

FYB: Younger ones can be annoying sometimes, and as the only female, they’d want to piss me off knowing that I am capable of doing nothing to them. But I thank God, I have been able to manage them. It is like an adventure because I am the “Queen” in my “Kingdom” and my younger ones are “the princes”.

NCB: what interests you the most?

FYB: Singing and playing keyboard. I love music and love LOVE. I also love legal things that fetch me money.

NCB: As an entrepreneur, what interests you to start those businesses and when did you start?

FYB: I started Wondy’s bags in 2019 and what motivated me then was the complaints of people about backaches after carrying big bags. I thought of a way to help people reduce back ache by designing tote bags by coming out with totes bags and also customizing the bags with their names and emojis.

NCB: You must be very skilled in this particular field, did you undergo any training or by inspiration?

FYB: I’ll say it is everything. I had a little experience through a friend that was doing tote bags, but the major reason I started was to provide a solution. I had good communication skills which attracts people to me.

NCB: How are you able to multitask your academics with businesses?

FYB: The first thing is that I am able to prioritize everything. I make sure that these things do not affect the major reason I am on campus. Sometimes, when it is overwhelming, I take break. Also, I have supportive friends who are willing to go miles for me and help me promote my business.

NCB: let’s leave business for now. Did you choose English language?

FYB: While growing up, I wanted to become a medical doctor. I even composed a song for myself. But when I was in SSS2 and I wrote Chemistry, Biology and Physics Examinations, the results were staring at me and I am staring at them too. Someone told me that if I was not careful, I would become a quack doctor. Before it’s too late, I chose law but due to the disaccreditation, I had to change to English Language.

NCB: Now that you are in the department of the Department of English Language, how’s the experience been so far?

FYB: Hmm! I’ll say it is a learning experience as the school anthem says, “for learning and culture, sport and struggle.” The experience has been wonderful but that is sarcastic actually. I learnt a lot after sometimes, if you know what you are doing, you won’t be destabilized.

NCB: What is your best course?

FYB: I’ll say Literature courses, then Philosophy.

NCB: You said you were a lover of love, do you have any love of your life?

FYB: I prefer not to say.

NCB: Do you prefer a tall dark guy or a chubby fair guy?

FYB: A tall dark guy.

NCB: Have you been served breakfast before?

FYB: I have been served breakfast and dinner, I have also served someone breakfast as well, a glorious one.

NCB: How come?

FYB: Person wey no love God no fit love you and most of them are cheaters. I am a demisexual being and most of them aren’t.

NCB: What’s your philosophy of life?

FYB: As a man thinketh in his mind, so he is.

NCB: Any shout-out?

FYB: Shout-outs to God Almighty, my parents because they are my backbone, my friends, my enemies because I don’t know them.

*Can we meet you?* •I am Adéwùmí Zainab Atóyèbí. I recently graduated from the Department of English with a First Class degree (Honours)and the privilege of being the best graduating student of the department. *How do you feel bagging first-class degree in the Department of English since the last time it was recorded?* • I feel very joyful and grateful to God who enabled me and gave me the privilege to have achieved such a feat. While I was diligent with my studies, it is entirely by the grace and favour of God that I graduated well, and I am sincerely grateful for it. *What challenges did you encounter?* • The Department of English is undeniably challenging on its own, especially considering its past records.
